UndergraduateThe University of Melbourne offers two courses of training in Neuroscience, the Neuroscience major for students enrolled in the BSc degree and the Neuroscience stream for BBiomedSci students. Both can lead to honours programs and PhD degrees focusing in Neuroscience based in any one of several University of Melbourne departments and affiliated Institutes. Bachelor of Science – Neuroscience MajorStudents undertake an Introductory Neuroscience course at second year level which is taught by academic staff of the Departments of Anatomy & Cell Biology and Physiology. At the third year level, students take two core subjects in neuroscience, together with a range of elective subjects which enable them to focus their interests in a particular area of neuroscience. This major provides ideal training for a career in basic or clinical neuroscience within university departments, research institutes and hospitals.
Bachelor of Biomedical Science Degree – Neuroscience MajorNeuroscience training within this degree is addressed over a number of study areas ranging from the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neural function to complex behaviours such as thought and language. Whilst catering for career opportunities in scientific and medical research in university departments, research institutes & hospitals, broader opportunities can be sought in drug and bioengineering companies (diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, robotics). See: http://www.anatomy.unimelb.edu.au/students/subjects.html Information of course requirements, fees and open days can be obtained through the University of Melbourne admissions office. |
